What We’ve Done:

  • Stakeholder and ecosystem mapping
  • Published Paper #1: Community Approaches To Recycling Plastics
  • Recieved $5,000 grant from Venturewell
  • Attended Venturewell workshop
  • Project became a GISF/Capstone hybrid
  • Pivoted focus to making products that will lock up the most plastic
  • Investigated nipa huts, gutter systems, pavers, wall systems
  • Validated that wall systems are viable and shifted focus to that
  • Published Paper #2: Comparing the properties of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastic bricks to conventional concrete masonry units
  • Received $20,000 from Venturewell
  • Attended Stage 2 of Venturewell workshop
What We’re Going To Do:

  • Conduct research on effects of contamination
  • Prototype melter machine
  • prototype system in US (full process of all machinery
  • Get first investor/entrepreneur
  • Launch pilot facility in the Philippines
  • Gather research and optimize the facility for its ecosystem
  • Publish Paper #3: The Economic Feasibility of Community-Scale Recycling Facilities
  • Customer validation farther than customer segments in Columbia
  • Attend fieldwork and travel to the Philippines
